uring the Renaissance, a courtesan was chosen for her beauty, charm, wit and intelligence in order to serve as companion to the gentlemen of the court. It was expected that a courtesan was educated in classical subjects as art, music, poetry and politics.

he Courtier was as well an Artist, Poet and Musician who was employed by a patron who would cover all his expenses. Famous courtiers were Leonardo d' Vinci and Michelangelo!
